This reminds me of Aisha the 18 year old Afghan girl who was severely 'punished' by the Taliban just because she ran away from her husband's house. The Taliban sliced off her nose and both her ears for 'dishonoring' her family, her in-laws and her religion. That brave child's face was on the Time Magazine Cover.
This is sweet and appealing. I'd probably like it more with generous highlighting but, based on your title and the assumed concept behind it, I can see why doing so would demean it or add contradictory elements to it.
